Energysummit2009.bg- Natural Gas for Europe: Security and Partnership- Sofia, 24- 25 April 2009
The summit “Natural Gas for Europe: Security and Partnership” held in Sofia from 24 to 25 April 2009 was spearheaded by President Georgi Parvanov of the Republic of Bulgaria. State and government leaders from Russia, the US, Egypt, Qatar, member countries of the European Union, representatives from the Black Sea and Caspian region, Central Asia, as well as representatives of the European Commission and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development were present at the forum.
President Georgi Parvanov stated the summit makes up an integral facet of the Republic of Bulgaria’s endeavours to foster a reciprocally beneficial, fair, and active dialogue with Central Asian, Black Sea, and Caspian Region countries, our European Union partners, and representatives from all nations who participated in this distinguished forum. ‌
The president emphasised that the central focus of the meeting is to seek new international agreements and establish a fresh European energy policy. This involves achieving sustainable energy security for Bulgaria, the region, and Europe, as well as implementing strategic projects for energy resource transmission and preventing crises related to the supply of oil and gas to Europe. ‌
To ensure energy security for all countries involved, participants adopted a declaration supporting the implementation of all infrastructure projects that aim to diversify the supply of hydrocarbons to Europe. ‌
The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria, through decree number 97 dated 23 April 2009, has meticulously outlined and allocated the financial resources for the renowned forum. Funding in the amount of 1.9845 million BGN was provided through restructuring costs in the central budget for 2009, and it was distributed as outlined below:
1. The budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - 1,404,500 BGN ‌
2. The budget of the Ministry of Interior - 200 000 BGN ‌
3. The budget of the National Security Service - 380 000 BGN ‌
The summit "Natural Gas for Europe: Security and Partnership", Sofia, 24 to 25 April 2009 has been completed with Declaration and was held in the National Palace of Culture- the largest multi-functional complex in South-eastern Europe for congresses, cultural events and exhibitions and found broad coverage in the media of Bulgarian society, including the publication of the Parliament of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency- see Press Release ‌
